My Fireplace Glow-Up: From Basic to Bold (and a Bunny Came Along for the Ride)
Ta Da! I love how much character this fireplace has now.
My fireplace was, to put it nicely, a bit underwhelming. It was functional, sure, but it lacked any real personality. So, I decided it was time for a little makeover magic. This was one of the many personal DYI projects that I have been dying for a LONG time. Now that I that I am “retired Lynette” I’m ready to take them on.
The fireplace lacked any kind of Pizazz
The Vision:
I wanted to give my fireplace a bit of a facelift, something that would add a touch of charm and make it a focal point in the room. I was aiming for a blend of modern elegance with a hint of something unexpected.
The Transformation Journey:
1st step was to frame out the fireplace
* Framing and Molding: Adding Structure and Style: First up, we addressed the open top. We framed a sheet-rocked in the open space and trim molding we purchased at home depo gave the fireplace a more defined shape and added some much-needed architectural interest. It instantly looked more polished.
Added sheetrock and a decorative molding
* Artichoke Green: A Pop of Color: I chose Sherwin Williams Artichoke Green for the paint. It's a lovely, rich shade that adds warmth and depth to the room. It was the perfect way to bring in some color without being too overwhelming.
Primed the wall with white paint

* Peel-and-Stick Tiles: A Modern Touch: To update the surround, I found peel-and-stick tiles on Amazon that mimic black marble. (link at the bottom of the post). It was a budget-friendly and easy way to add a sleek, modern touch. Plus, it was a breeze to install!
The peel and stick tiles made s huge difference
* The Eric the rabbit Bust: A Whimsical Accent: Now, for the fun part: the bust. This quirky, gold rabbit with a monocle adds a unique and playful element to the fireplace. It's definitely a conversation starter and brings a smile to my face.
Doesn’t Eric the Rabbit make you smile?
* Finishing Touches: Adding Personality: To complete the look, I added a framed "God Bless Our Home" print that hung on my childhood home growing print, some decorative jars, and a vase of dried hydrangeas. These small touches helped to tie everything together and add a bit of personality.
The Final Result:
My fireplace is now a charming focal point in my living room. The Artichoke Green paint, the sleek black marble tiles, and the whimsical bunny bust create a unique and inviting atmosphere. It’s a perfect blend of modern style and playful personality.
Tips for Your Own Fireplace Refresh:
* Choose a color that speaks to you: Don't be afraid to experiment with color.
* Consider peel-and-stick tiles: They're a great option for a quick and easy update.
* Add a statement piece: A unique accessory can make a big difference.
* Don't forget the finishing touches: Small details can make a big impact.
Conclusion:
This fireplace makeover was a fun and rewarding project. It shows that with a little creativity, you can transform any space into something special.
